Kaevum is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 2007 in Tromsø, known for their raw, aggressive sound rooted in the early 1990s Norwegian black metal tradition.

The band, consisting of Nekrosoldat (guitars), Overgrep (drums), and formerly Nordhauk (vocals), delivers a cold, dissonant style with driving rhythms and piercing vocals, often drawing comparisons to Burzum, Darkthrone, and Pagan Hellfire. Their music balances icy melodies with hellish dissonance, occasionally incorporating clean, chant-like vocals reminiscent of Ulver’s “Bergtatt”. Lyrically, Kaevum explores themes of anti-Judeo-Christianity, hate, and cultural strength.

Their discography includes the critically acclaimed “Natur” (2011), praised for its raw production and atmospheric intensity, alongside “Kultur” (2023), “Kosmos Erwache”, “Fedrelandets Alter”, and “Ultra” (2023).

“Natur” is often highlighted as a standout, described as a “refreshing, yet horrifying breath of fresh grim air” with a sound evoking early Behexen and Satanic Warmaster.

“Kultur” features varied vocals and resonant riffs, earning praise for its cohesive listening experience. Kaevum’s production, sharp and clear yet retaining a lo-fi edge, enhances their violent, atmospheric sound.

Signed to Darker than Black Records, Kaevum has garnered a dedicated following within the black metal scene, with fans  lauding their technical drumming and beautiful riffs. Nordhauk’s departure in 2023, reportedly tied to the band’s growing popularity among diverse audiences, marked a shift, but Kaevum remains a potent force in modern black metal, celebrated for their uncompromising intensity and fidelity to the genre’s roots.
